The Union government today sought Parliament’s approval for additional spending worth ₹6,78,508.10 crore for 2024-25 through the second batch of supplementary demands for grants, involving net cash outgo to the tune of ₹51,462.86 crore. The second supplementary includes 52 grants and three appropriations.
“The second batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2024-25 includes 52 Grants and 3 appropriations. Approval of the Parliament is sought to authorise gross additional expenditure of ₹6,78,508.10 crore,” said the supplementary demand for grants tabled in the Parliament today.
“Of this, the proposals involving net cash outgo aggregate to ₹51,462.86 crore and gross additional expenditure, matched by savings of the ministries/ departments or by enhanced receipts/recoveries aggregates to ₹6,27,044.57 crore,” it added.
The government had earlier sought Parliament’s approval for the first batch of an additional ₹44,143 crore spending in FY25. The first batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2024-25 were discussed and voted in full and the related Appropriation Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 17, 2024.
The Union Budget for FY26 projects a total expenditure of ₹50.65 lakh crore, up from the revised estimate of ₹47.16 lakh crore for FY25.
"The Revised Estimate of the total receipts other than borrowings is ₹31.47 lakh crore, of which the net tax receipts are ₹25.57 lakh crore. The Revised Estimate of the total expenditure is ₹47.16 lakh crore, of which the capital expenditure is about ₹10.18 lakh crore," the FM said in her Budget speech in February.
Coming to 2025-26, she said the total receipts other than borrowings and the total expenditure are estimated at ₹34.96 lakh crore and ₹50.65 lakh crore, respectively. Also, the net tax receipts are estimated at ₹28.37 lakh crore.
