Maruti Suzuki wholesales rise 5%; Hyundai sees 2% drop

Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd rose 5.3% year-on-year to 1.41 lakh units in November compared with 1.34 lakh units in the corresponding month last year.

In November 2024, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 181,531 units. Total sales in the month include domestic sales of 144,238 units (including light commercial vehicles at 2,962 units), sales to other OEM (original equipment manufacturers) of 8,660 units and exports of 28,633 units. India’s largest carmaker’s exports increased 25% to 28,633 units last month.

Maruti Suzuki’s car wholesales – dispatches from the factory to dealerships – have declined 2.5% year-on-year to 11.45 lakh units in the first eight months of the ongoing financial year owing to a high base in the previous fiscal.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales of Hyundai Motor India Ltd declined 2.4% year-on-year to 48,246 units in November 2024 compared with 49,451 units in the same month last year. The South Korean carmaker’s exports fell 20% to 13,006 units in November.

“HMIL’s push towards fortifying SUV supremacy continued in November with SUVs contributing 68.8% of our total Domestic sales. We also bolstered HMIL’s presence in the hinterland of India, by achieving highest ever monthly rural contribution of 22.1% in November,” says Tarun Garg, whole-time director and chief operating officer, HMIL.

Tata Motors witnessed a 2% increase in wholesales for the month of November at 47,063 units as against 46,068 units in the corresponding month last year. The carmaker’s electric vehicle wholesales jumped 9% to 5,202 units in November.

JSW MG Motor India today announced wholesales of 6,019 units for the month of November 2024, this recording a year-on-year growth of 20%. MG Windsor maintains its strong demand, leading the company’s EV sales for the second consecutive month with 3,144 units. The company’s electric vehicles comprised over 70% of its total sales during the month.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recorded wholesales of 25,586 units in November 2024, a 44% increase over the same period last year. In the month of November 2023, the company sold 17,818 units. Exports in the month of November 2024 stood at 1,140 units.
