Eicher Motors shares race 7% to hit all-time high

Shares of Eicher Motors jumped 7.3% in intraday trade on Thursday to hit an all-time high after the maker of Royal Enfield motorcycle reported a 25% year-on-year increase in December sales.

Royal Enfield posted monthly sales of 79,466 motorcycles in December 2024, up 25% during the same month in the previous financial year. Royal Enfield exported 11,575 motorcycles during the month compared with 6,096 during the same period last year.

Reacting to the development, shares of Eicher Motors jumped 7.3% in intraday trade to ₹5,242.90 on the BSE. The stock opened lower at ₹4,875.55 against its previous closing price of ₹4885.50 before it hit a 52-week high. The company’s market cap rose to ₹1.43 lakh crore.

Speaking about the performance for the month of December 2024, B Govindarajan, CEO, Royal Enfield said, “As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on a truly remarkable year for us at Royal Enfield. We’ve launched some category-defining motorcycles through the year and it is encouraging to see the response to our recently launched motorcycles both in India and international markets. As we gear up for 2025, we are looking forward to sustaining our growth momentum.”

Royal Enfield inaugurated a new assembly plant In Thailand. The two-wheeler maker commenced operations of its first fully owned and operated CKD assembly facility outside India in Samut Prakan, Bangkok. The new plant highlights the brand's ambitions for the Thai market and the wider APAC region. “With a modern 57,000 sq. ft. setup and an installed capacity of over 30,000 units annually, the facility is Royal Enfield’s sixth CKD assembly unit globally, joining existing plants in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Nepal,” the company says.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto’s total domestic sales dropped 15% to 1.62 lakh units in December 2024, compared to 1.90 lakh units in the same month of the previous year. However, supported by strong 18% growth in export sales, total sales saw a marginal year-on-year decline of 1% to 3.23 lakh units. Domestic sales were primarily impacted by the two-wheeler segment, which recorded a 19% year-on-year decline to 1.28 lakh units from 1.58 lakh units a year ago, despite modest 5% growth in domestic commercial vehicle sales. Exports, however, showed robust performance, with the commercial vehicles segment posting nearly 50% growth and the two-wheeler segment registering a 15% increase.
