Housing as an asset will not depreciate: HDFC's Renu Sud Karnad
The fundamental investment advice from the MD of the country’s largest mortgage lender is—buy a house. “With the way shortage of housing is there in India, with the way our population is growing, housing as an asset class is a need and its value will not depreciate with time," says Renu Sud Karnad. Interestingly, in a great way, one can also contribute to nation-building. As per Karnad, if you build one house, 270 odd industries get affected as you are creating that many jobs. Also, she emphasises the importance of diversification. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Invest in different instruments.
When not working, Karnad likes to go to cinema halls with her husband. “I prefer to watch movies on the big screen. Also, being a railway man’s daughter, I like to travel a lot,” she says. Karnad’s all-time favourite movie is Lagaan. “I still wait for that last catch,” she adds.
