Indian growth highest among big economies: Anurag Singh Thakur

Information and broadcasting minister Anurag Singh Thakur said India has come a long way ahead of the pandemic disruptions even as the global economies are facing recessionary pressure. Addressing Fortune India TheNext500: Growth Drivers Awards in New Delhi, the minister said: “World declared us dead and said India would not come out of the Covid–19 crisis. However, we manufactured our own vaccines. Over 220 crore vaccine doses have been administered free of cost which is more than the combined population of the US, Europe, Latin America and Russia.”

“So called experts told us that our economy would be devastated and inflation would engulf us. However, today we are the fifth-largest global economy. India continues to leapfrog ahead even as the world faces a recession. Indian growth at 7.2% is the highest for any big economy in the world,” said Thakur.
