Silent revolution by EVs to bring sweeping changes in India: PM Modi

Highlighting the spurt in the adoption of electric vehicles in recent years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that the breakneck speed at which people have embraced electric vehicles was unfathomable a few years ago. “Electric vehicles are no longer ‘extra vehicles’,” Modi adds. He also dubs this rapid electrification — both on two and four-wheelers — as a ‘silent revolution’, stemming from the fact that electric vehicles do not generate any noise in their use.

According to Modi, the strengthening of supply, demand, and ecosystem will inevitably lead to the furthering of electric vehicle usage in India. “It is a certainty that with the strengthening of supply, demand, and ecosystem, the EV sector is going to progress,” he adds.

However, in order to realise India’s 'Net Zero' target for 2070, work should be done concurrently on other non-fossil sources as well. “I’m happy that Maruti Suzuki is also working on things like biofuel, ethanol blending, and hybrid EVs. I suggest that Suzuki start work on projects related to compressed biomethane gas,” he adds. Modi also wishes that a better environment be created for healthy competition and mutual learning. “It will benefit both the nation and the business,” he adds.
