Urge banks to maintain capital, liquidity buffers beyond regulations: RBI’s Das
Stressing that the Indian banking system is resilient and is unaffected by the "recent sparks of instability" in the US and Europe, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has urged the banks to maintain capital adequacy and liquidity buffers beyond the regulatory requirements. "This comes out clearly in the recent stress test. Gross NPA ratio for the scheduled commercial banks in India was 4.41 per cent in December 2022, down from 5.8 per cent in March 2022 and 7.30 per cent as on March 31, 2021," Das added.
