Nachiket Bhatia: The Man Who Believed

Entrepreneurs believe in themselves and their abilities to launch and run successful businesses. They all would agree that while it is immensely gratifying to manage one's own business, it is definitely not a cakewalk and the path to success is filled with huge challenges and that it is a constant endeavour to not give in and keep moving forward.

These same entrepreneurs would also agree that establishing a new business and making it a success is far easier compared to turning around a business that has reached a dead end. Only a very few have the conviction and the drive to turn the fortunes around for such a business and they are no less than a superhuman.

One such gifted individual is Dr. Nachiket Bhatia, whose vision has proved to be instrumental in turning the tide for his family business which was in dire straits.

The Beginning

From being a dreamy-eyed MBBS undergrad whose business idea got red-flagged by everyone, to being included in the Forbes Top 10 Most Innovative CEOs, Dr. Nachiket Bhatia has come a long way. He literally moulded a dying venture into a dominating market player through his belief and conviction.

His story began years ago when he was still pursuing his MBBS degree. His family venture, Dr. Bhatia Medical Coaching Institute (DBMCI), hit an all-time low during the period. Once the pioneer of PG medical coaching in India, the institute was established in 1996 and was going through a rough patch then. Young Dr. Nachiket Bhatia naturally gravitated towards shouldering the responsibility of bringing his family business back to life.

A few years down the line, he has clearly not just managed to bring the venture back to life, but has also redefined quite a few horizons.

From Dreams to Domination

Dr. Nachiket Bhatia was impressed with the proliferation of e-learning, which he hoped would extend to the domain of conventional education in medical studies. He wondered if he could pursue it on his own but found himself not quite ready on the business know-how front. He was also on his way to a postgraduate degree in medicine. However, he decided to transform himself as he prepared to transform his venture.

Dr. Nachiket Bhatia took self-learning classes to understand the nuances of the business world. He interacted with medical students to understand what they expected from courses being offered by various coaching institutions.

Juggling between studies and entrepreneurship, he also consulted faculty associated with DBMCI for their inputs. At the same time, he enthused his franchise partners with confidence, assuring them they were not a sinking ship.

Registering Success and Looking Beyond

Dr. Nachiket Bhatia introduced major changes in the company structure and streamlined digitisation and online learning during the first couple of years. Dr. Nachiket Bhatia worked real hard with his team to ensure very high standards of academic quality. The result was DBMCI registering massive success – it had bounced back.

After seven years, Dr. Nachiket Bhatia managed to revamp DBMCI into a profitable venture called eGurukul – an Edtech pioneer that has changed the medical education landscape by adding real-time virtual clinical experience.

“In 2019, our venture was able to take credit for the success of 7 students from DBMCI who were in the Top 10 Ranks in NEET PG examinations, an extremely rare feat,” says a beaming Dr. Nachiket Bhatia.

Despite being a new entrant in the landscape, eGurukul proved to be a massive success with its app crossing 1.35 lakh downloads in the first 6 months and surging past several established players. Today, eGurukul has over 3 lakh downloads.

Eyeing the Future

Dr. Nachiket Bhatia plans to take his venture further by including AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) into medical education through eGurukul 3.0, thus expanding the boundaries of education. He believes eGurukul is helping create a generation of holistic doctors, providing them with the right content, skill development avenues and virtual clinical experience.

Dr. Nachiket Bhatia views himself more as an educationist than a businessman. He has rejected several multi-crores offers for eGurukul as he believes that it can help students in a way none can. Fostering the opinion, “education for everyone”, he aims to improve access to education, especially for the vulnerable. His venture’s CSR activities have reached 1000+ students, offering scholarships worth 2 crore rupees and earned Dr. Nachiket Bhatia the moniker of “The Robin Hood of PG-Prep World.”

“If you have a dream and don’t pursue it because of any reason, you’re doing injustice to your own self. No matter how tough it may seem, anything is possible as long as you are convinced that you can do it. Put in honest efforts and the results will be there” concludes Dr. Nachiket Bhatia.
