Coforge, a global digital services and IT solutions provider specialising in AI-native engineering, cloud modernization, and data-driven transformation, is expanding its automotive engineering business with a 300-member workforce spread across India, the US, Europe and Latin America, as automakers accelerate investments in Electric Vehicles (EVs), connected technologies and software-defined vehicles.

Formerly known as NIIT Technologies Limited, the homegrown multinational company stated that the practice will focus on vehicle software, connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and next-generation automotive platforms. The Noida-headquartered firm did not disclose the investment involved in the expansion or provide a revenue target for its automotive engineering business in the release.

The expansion comes as software increasingly becomes integral to vehicle development, with automakers having to integrate software, vehicle systems, connectivity and cloud technologies across the product lifecycle.

Coforge said its automotive engineering operations cover activities ranging from vehicle architecture and software development to integration, simulation, validation, testing, production and deployment.

Focus shifts to connected and software-defined vehicles

Coforge’s automotive capabilities include vehicle software development, over-the-air (OTA) management, vehicle connectivity, edge-cloud technologies, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), navigation and vehicle data platforms. It is also applying AI to areas such as predictive maintenance, intelligent inspection and user authentication, while exploring physical AI applications in automotive manufacturing.

The company said it has undertaken engineering projects for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tier-1 suppliers and other automotive ecosystem players. These projects have included vehicle cybersecurity, autonomous-vehicle user authentication, predictive maintenance, AI-driven inspection, phone-as-a-key technology, connected vehicle platform management, EV fleet management, V2X features and navigation and route planning.

AI becomes a bigger part of automotive engineering

Coforge Executive Vice President of Technology, Media, Automotive, and Energy Vijay Verma said the industry is moving from vehicles primarily engineered as products towards platforms that evolve continuously through software.

“This transformation is creating a new level of complexity across vehicle systems, software, connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity and the in-vehicle experience,” Verma said, adding that the company is bringing these disciplines together as it expands its engineering footprint across key markets.

The company said AI is being applied across the automotive engineering lifecycle to improve engineering efficiency and software development. Beyond software, it is also using physical AI in manufacturing, including matching software functions with hardware components and automating manual processes.
