Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Telangana Transport Department to set up 12 automated driving licence test tracks across six locations in the state as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The tracks will come up at Ibrahimpatnam and Kondapur in Ranga Reddy district; Uppal, Medchal and Nagole in Medchal district; and Karimnagar.
Tracks to use cameras, RFID sensors
The facilities will be equipped with high-definition cameras, radio frequency identification (RFID) sensors, real-time analytics and an integrated information technology system to conduct computerised, rule-based driving tests in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).
The system is designed to make the evaluation process objective and eliminate human bias and error, the company said.
The tracks will facilitate driving licence tests for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles. Heavy motor vehicle testing will be available only at the Nagole and Karimnagar facilities.
Rahul Bharti, senior executive officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, said the automated tracks would bring fairness and transparency to the licensing process by eliminating human bias. They would also enable rigorous driver evaluation and promote disciplined driving practices, he added.
K Ilambarithi, Transport Commissioner, Government of Telangana, said the facilities would make driving tests more transparent and efficient, while ensuring that only competent and qualified applicants are awarded driving licences.
Maruti's road safety initiatives
Maruti Suzuki said it has set up 98 automated driving test tracks across nine states and two Union Territories. Its state-wise network includes 25 tracks in Rajasthan, 17 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Delhi, 12 in Telangana, 10 in Tamil Nadu, seven in Bihar, five in Andhra Pradesh, four in Uttarakhand, two in Haryana, and one each in Chhattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The company has also set up eight Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs) and 19 Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKCs) in collaboration with state governments. It said more than 5.5 million people had been trained and evaluated at these facilities from their inception up to FY26.
Additionally, Maruti Suzuki implements Integrated Traffic Safety Management System projects involving real-time monitoring and surveillance in Delhi and Haryana to support law enforcement and promote disciplined driving behaviour. It also provides first-responder training to commercial drivers and other stakeholders through its IDTRs.
