Advantage Assam 2.0: ₹1.22 lakh cr MoUs on the anvil as BJP leaders, global investors arrive; here's what to expect

Ahead of the two-day Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Cabinet has approved over ₹1.22 lakh crore of memorandums of understanding (MoUs), which will be approved during Advantage Assam. "Another ₹15,000 crore worth of MOUs will be approved at the district level and all these proposals will be swiftly implemented on the ground," he said. The Assam Cabinet has also approved the textile and apparel policy for the state, along with other development projects.

After the Prime Minister inaugurated the two-day Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2025 in MP on Monday, PM Monday landed in Assam where will attend the Jhumoir Binandini (Mega Jhumoir) 2025 in Assam during the evening ahead of the two-day Advantage Summit 2025 summit. "Advantage Assam 2025 offers a platform for businesses to explore trade and investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors, including food processing, tourism, IT, manufacturing, green energy, infrastructure, connectivity, defence, aerospace, among others," said Sarma.

Advantage Assam 2.0 is being held after seven years when then chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal-led government had organised its first event business summit in 2018 during which MoUs worth over ₹65,000 crores were signed.

At Jhumoi Binandini, meanwhile, a spectacular cultural extravaganza will be held with a record 8,000 performers participating in the Jhumoir dance, a folk dance of the Assam Tea Tribe and Adivasi Communities of Assam. The Mega Jhumoir cultural dance embodies the spirit of inclusivity, unity and cultural pride. It also symbolyses 200 years of the tea industry and industrialisation in Assam.

The Assam Summit, which will be held from 25th to 26th February in Guwahati, will include an inaugural session, 7 ministerial sessions and 14 thematic sessions. The event will also include an exhibition illustrating the state’s economic landscape, with a focus on its industrial evolution, global trade partnerships, booming industries, and the vibrant MSME sector, featuring over 240 exhibitors. The initiative aims to accelerate economic growth, innovation, and industrial expansion in Assam.

Along with the Prime Minister, the key leaders of the business world including Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, BK Goenka, Sajjan Jindal, Anil Agarwal, and N Chandrasekaran will also attend the Assam Summit.

Various international organisations, global leaders and investors, policymakers, industry experts, startups, and students, among others, will participate in the Assam Summit. The summit will provide opportunities across various high-growth sectors, including tourism, renewable energy & hydrocarbons, electronics & semiconductors, aerospace & defence manufacturing, fragrance & flavours, mobility & logistics, and bamboo & sustainable harvest.

There will be 20 thematic sessions, which will bring together industry leaders, subject matter experts, and government officials to discuss key growth opportunities. Sessions will focus on healthcare, the green gold revolution, tourism, startups, and other transformative themes, fostering strategic collaborations.

Apart from the PM, the key ministers of the NDA leadership, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal. Sitharaman will be the chief guest at the valedictory session, which will serve as a platform to highlight key takeaways, investment commitments, and future growth strategies.

Besides, taking some off time, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar took an early morning safari on Monday with the international delegation at Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve.
