Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has said India is witnessing investments of nearly $70 billion in artificial intelligence (AI), calling it a significant boost to the country’s technology ecosystem. "...This mission involves several new experiments, new applications, and new technology development projects...All five layers of the AI stack and all five areas are receiving significant investment," Vaishnaw said.

Speaking at the Rajasthan Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 in Jaipur, Vaishnaw said the Centre has launched the India AI Mission to strengthen India’s position in the global AI landscape. He also announced that the Global AI Impact Summit will be hosted in India, marking a major milestone for the country’s growing role as a global technology hub.

AI Impact Summit is now coming to India

According to the minister, the AI Impact Summit, which was earlier held in countries such as the UK, South Korea, and France, is now coming to India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As part of the preparations, regional AI summits—on the lines of the G20—are being organised across states. Similar events have already been held in Meghalaya and Odisha while the Rajasthan summit concluded on Tuesday.

At the event, Rajasthan’s AI policy and a new skilling programme aimed at connecting youth with technology were launched. A nationwide skilling programme to train up to 10 lakh youth in AI was also launched on Tuesday at the Rajasthan AI summit.

AI skills will be imparted to 10 lakh youth

Vaishnaw said the initiative seeks to equip young people, especially small entrepreneurs, with AI skills to enhance productivity and business outcomes. Under the programme, AI skills will be imparted to 10 lakh youth and small entrepreneurs within the next year.

Highlighting the scale of investment, Vaishnaw said the India AI Mission encompasses new experiments, applications, and technology development projects, with significant investments being made across all five layers of the AI stack and five priority areas.

The minister said the prime minister has provided a clear vision for AI development in India, with a focus on making technology accessible to all. “The first step is to ensure that technology reaches every citizen. Rajasthan has an important role to play in this effort,” he added.
