Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was all praises for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, who is currently working on his much-anticipated directorial debut with Netflix. Titled The Ba**ds of Bollywood, the series promises a sharp, satirical take on the glittering yet chaotic world of Indian cinema.
The project was unveiled during a conversation between Sarandos and Nikhil Kamath on the People by WTF podcast. Praising Aryan’s work, Sarandos said, “He’s a very good director. The show is fun, sharp, and full of humour. It explores Bollywood in a way that feels fresh and authentic.”

As India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Fortune India presents its special issue on the nation’s Top 100 Billionaires. Curated in partnership with Waterfield Advisors, this year’s list reflects a slight decline in the number of dollar billionaires—from 185 to 182—even as the entry threshold for the Top 100 rose to ₹24,283 crore, up from ₹22,739 crore last year. From stalwarts like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and the Mistry family, who continue to lead the list, to major gainers such as Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla, the issue goes beyond the numbers to explore the resilience, ambition, and strategic foresight that define India’s wealth creators. Read their compelling stories in the latest issue of Fortune India. On stands now.
Though the plot details remain under wraps, insiders describe the series as a bold blend of drama, humour, and industry satire—an unfiltered look at the contradictions behind Bollywood’s glamour. With Netflix’s global reach and Aryan’s insider perspective, the show is already generating major buzz.
Unlike his father’s high-profile journey in front of the camera, Aryan is carving his path through storytelling. Choosing direction over the limelight, he intends to build a creative identity of his own.
Netflix’s backing signals strong confidence in Aryan’s vision. As Sarandos noted, “Local stories with deep authenticity often have universal appeal,” drawing comparisons to breakout international hits like Squid Game. The series also adds to Netflix’s growing roster of collaborations with the Khan family, including Heeramandi and other marquee projects.
For Aryan, The Ba**ds of Bollywood is more than a debut—it’s a personal and creative milestone. While a release date is yet to be announced, the excitement is palpable. One thing is clear: Aryan Khan is ready to flip the script on Bollywood, and his directorial voice is one to watch.
