About the Founder
Ranganathan Balashanmugam is the Founder and CTO of EverestEngineering. His responsibility is to look after the technical and cultural aspects of the company. Under his guidance, the company has scaled to 125+ people in the last two and half years in three regions. Prior to starting his business, Ranganathan has worked with globally distributed teams for the last sixteen years. He graduated as a civil engineer and became a software developer, where he worked on web, mobile, and distributed technologies to scale software. He has been a speaker at various international conferences. He is also passionate about coaching, scaling, and leading teams.
Today, many companies across the world struggle with scaling their teams. EverestEngineering helps them to make better products or improve existing ones. While working with start-ups, they understand the problem statement that the company is solving and build a product that helps them to improve their user experience.
Some companies already have a team, but they are not able to build certain features. This is where EverestEngineering comes in and helps them to build the feature end-to-end. They want to focus on performance and doing the job well. Their aim is to create a very strong software engineering practice in the industry.
Building a Strong Work Culture
EverestEngineering has a unique way of hiring and working. Recently, the company hired graduates from college. “We didn’t do regular hiring. We had gone to the campus and asked the graduates to train them in a new language which was very simple and not taught in the college. We placed two iPads in front of them and told them that whosoever solves the problem statement will get the iPad. After hearing this, the people got really competitive and excited to solve the problem statement, he says.
“Sometimes we see people who are not so good in class solve the problem better than toppers. We believe that one cannot hire a smart person by giving them a dumb problem statement. Many a time, companies hire freshers and make them work to assist their seniors. And this is the main reason why many people do not enjoy working as they do not see any challenges in their roles,” he adds.
After hiring the people from college, the company conducted a function to welcome them in their organization as they have missed their college life due to the pandemic. The company wanted to give a lifetime experience to the new joiners and created a whole day of experience for them. “At EverestEngineering, we hire people who have the ability to do the job and the motivation to take up new challenges. We invest in our people and train them. We give them ample opportunities to understand, learn and grow. We have autonomous teams and do not follow a hierarchy. Our teams are driven by purpose with a responsibility to deliver value to customers,” he explains.
This helps them to work with clients efficiently and deliver the best quality products/solutions. They build trust by giving full insight into their work.
Speaking about the pandemic, he says, “As we started working from home suddenly, we realized that we had to provide remote excellence to our teams. Earlier people used to sit together and understand the strategies and factors associated with the business. But today, most of the people are working from home. Due to this reason, all the information has to be transferred online for the smooth functioning of the business. We started using different tools that will help us to enhance and be more productive online. In our organization, we use a lot of conversational tools which help us to work better.”
Future Endeavors
EverestEngineering aims to build a workplace where people love working and provide the best products/solutions to its customers. They want to create an impact in the software engineering space in the coming years.
Ranganathan concludes by saying, “Find new ways to be resilient and keep growing in your field.”
