Even before its launch on July 10, Hyundai Exter is making headlines as one of the technologically-advanced sub-compact SUVs (sports utility vehicles) in the Indian market. Though the company has kept the pricing under wraps, Exter is expected to be priced at around ₹6 lakh, giving tough competition to the likes of Tata Punch, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Maruti Fronx.

The bookings of Hyundai Exter have already started across Hyundai dealerships or online at ₹11,000.

Hyundai currently holds a 15% market share in the country's SUV segment. With the launch of Exter, the company says it is eyeing to become a leader in the SUV segment in the next few quarters.

In order to woo customers, the company has spruced up the interiors of SUV Exter with 60 technologically-advanced features as part of the Hyundai Bluelink offering. The company claims that Exter will be equipped with a connected type 20.32 cm (8”) HD touchscreen and advanced digital cluster with 10.67 cm (4.2”) colour TFT MID (thin-film-transistor) and Hyundai Bluelink, thus making it the segment's most connected SUV.

The touchscreen will have inbuilt navigation and smartphone connectivity, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The advanced digital cluster will display a host of information related to drive statistics, TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) (highline), parking distance, door open, sunroof open and seatbelt in 10 regional languages and two global languages. Exter will also be equipped with over-the-air (OTA) updates for infotainment and map.

With Hyundai Bluelink, the company plans to offer 60 connected car features for safety and security, remote services, location-based services, vehicle diagnostics, and voice assistance. The SUV will also feature more than 90 embedded voice commands that work even without internet connectivity. This home-to-car (H2C) commands will be available in Hindi and English via Alexa.

Terming the comfort of customers as its top priority, Hyundai claims that Exter will have a wheelbase of 2,450 mm and height of 1,631 mm for maximised cabin space with ample headroom for second-row occupants, superior knee room, legroom and shoulder room. Hyundai Exter will feature seats that have an optimised height for ease of ingress and egress, while floor height has been designed to ensure easy step-in and step-out, says the company.

Exter will also be equipped with a large DLO (Day-Light Opening) and superior rear window glass size, thus maximising visibility for rear passengers as well. For easy loading and unloading of luggage, the company claims that Exter will have a low-loading height and rear transverse height that amplifies the usability and convenience of boot space. The SUV will have a semi-leatherette upholstery with ‘EXTER’ branding.

The company had earlier revealed that Exter will have a 'Smart Electric Sunroof' and a dashcam with a dual camera (1st in-segment feature) as two prominent features that are likely to give competition to its peers. "Being India’s leading Smart Mobility Solutions provider, we have consistently improved the penetration of advanced technologies for the mass market. As a customer-centric organization, we believe in redefining aspirations by introducing our customers to new technologies and elevating their mobility experience," says Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India.
