Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Thursday said its construction arm L&T Construction has bagged a large order from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for India's bullet train project.

The railways business of L&T Construction has secured a contract from NHSRCL to construct a 116 kilometre route of high-speed track for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, according to an exchange filing.

A project worth ₹2,500 crore to ₹5,000 crore is classified as a large project by L&T.

The scope of the contract includes design, supply, construction and testing and commissioning track works on a design-build lump sum price basis for the double line high speed railway between Vadodara and Sabarmati in Gujarat, the infrastructure giant says.

"Japanese Shinkansen track technology will be adopted in this project. Upon completion, this slab track system will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour," it adds.

L&T is a major player in the domain of Ballastless track, a type of railway track infrastructure in which the traditional elastic combination of ties and ballast is replaced by a rigid construction of concrete or asphalt.

The company is currently executing various Ballastless track projects in multiple metro projects in India and abroad including Mauritius, Dhaka, Mumbai, Kanpur, Agra, Ahmedabad and in Delhi-Meerut Semi High-speed (180 KMPH) Rapid Rail Transit System Project. It has earlier delivered Ballastless track projects in Riyadh, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chenna.

The company is already executing civil viaduct, station packages and special steel bridges packages for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project.
