Pawan Goenka on the road ahead for India’s mobility mission

Last week the NITI Aayog held a two-day long international summit in Delhi called Move – Global Mobility Summit where experts, industry representatives and government officials from across the globe discussed the future of mobility.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted seven Cs of India’s mobility initiative; common, connected, convenient, congestion free, charged, clean and cutting edge. There was special emphasis laid on sustainability, environment-friendly steps and accessibility when it comes to the future of mobility for the Indian citizen.

On the sidelines of the summit, Fortune India caught up with Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra and Mahindra who shared his views on the on the 7 Cs of India's mobility mission going ahead as laid out by PM Narendra Modi. He said the Prime Minister had essentially thrown a challenge at the industry to make mobility common, convenient and connected.

He also added that although several people were hoping for specific guidelines from the PM when it come to the electrification roadmap, it was only fair that the government set a long term vision and then the industry puts its thinking caps on in order to achieve it.

Goenka also added that making efficient mass mobility systems which are also affordable will be the biggest challenge going forward.
