The weekend is here, and so is your comprehensive ‘to-binge watch’ list of series, movies and documentaries to watch. This week Rajkummar Rao-starrer action thriller Maalik is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video, while supernatural mystery-comedy Wednesday S2 Part 2, Inspector Zende and Aankhon ki Gustaakhiyan have also been released on Netflix and Z5.

Maalik

This gritty action drama is set in North India’s underworld, revolving around Deepak, a farmer’s son who is on a revenge spree for his father’s death. The gangster-turned-boss referred to as ‘Maalik’ is played by Rajkummar Rao with former Miss World Manushi Chhillar featuring as his love interest. The star cast also includes Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, and Swanand Kirkire in key roles. Released on theatres in July, the film has been directed by Pulkit and is produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani under Tips Films and Northern Lights Films banner.

The Year Of EV Launches

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan

This romantic drama has been inspired by Ruskin Bond’s short story titled The Eyes Have It. The film follows the story of Jahaan, played by Vikrant Massey, a blind musician, and Saba, by Shanaya Kapoor, a theatre artiste who pretends to be blind. Drawn to each other without knowing the full truth, their love story finally finds resolution years later.

The film is premiering on Z5 (previously ZEE5) on September 5.

Highest 2 Lowest

This crime thriller features Denzel Washington in a lead role as David King, a powerful New York music mogul who risks everything in a tense kidnapping case. When kidnappers mistakenly abduct his driver’s son instead of his own, King must decide whether to sacrifice his fortune to save the boy. This English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low is directed by Spike Lee. The film also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, ASAP Rocky, and Ice Spice (in her debut)

Originally released in the U.S. in August, the film is available on Apple TV+ from September 5.

A Minecraft Movie

This fantasy adventure comedy film from the Minecraft world is a story on four real-world misfits who are transported into the blocky Overworld through a mysterious portal. Guided by the quirky master crafter Steve, they must overcome challenges and work together to return home. The film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, and Emma Myers

The film is available on JioHotstar from September 5.

Kannappa

The famous mythological drama is inspired by the legend of Bhakta Kannappa, a hunter and warrior who evolves into one of Lord Shiva’s most devoted followers. The film previously released in theatres in June features Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal

The film is streaming on Prime Video from Friday

Inspector Zende

This comedic crime thriller, said to have been inspired by real events, stars actor Manoj Bajpayee in as Senior Inspector Madhukar Zende, who is gearing up for re-arresting Carl Bhojraj. Bhojraj, the lead antagonist is played by Jim Sarbh.

The series is based on Zende’s famed 1986 arrest of Sobhraj in Goa, and is streaming on Netflix from September 5.

Wednesday Season 2 Part II

This second part to the second season of the famous supernatural mystery comedy series Wednesday revolves around the dark, mysterious adventures of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, at Nevermore Academy. Following the cliffhanger of Part I, the new four episodes released on September 3, dive deeper into sinister secrets and looming dangers.

The series also features Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, and Lady Gaga. Stream the show on Netflix.
