Star power and strong storytelling shape this week’s OTT and theatre line-up

OTT releases this week 

Headlining the OTT calendar is The Raja Saab, which marks Prabhas’ much-anticipated return to the horror-comedy genre. Streaming on JioHotstar from February 6, the film follows Raju, a financially strained heir who returns to his ancestral mansion planning a quick sale, only to uncover dark family secrets and supernatural forces guarding hidden wealth. Directed by Maruthi, the film leans into fantasy spectacle and mass humour, positioning itself as a multi-language crowd-puller after its theatrical run. The film is available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.

Netflix, meanwhile, brings back one of its most reliable legal franchises with the fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer, premiering on Netflix on February 5. Adapted from Michael Connelly’s novel The Law of Innocence, the new season places defence attorney Mickey Haller in his most personal battle yet—defending himself against murder charges after a former client is found dead in the trunk of his car. With the FBI and the district attorney circling in, the show sharpens its focus on institutional power, reputation, and the fragility of justice.

Political history takes centre stage on ZEE5 with Parasakthi, streaming from February 7. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the Tamil period drama is set against the backdrop of the 1960s anti-Hindi imposition protests in Tamil Nadu. Led by Sivakarthikeyan, the film explores student activism, linguistic identity and ideological conflict, tapping into themes that continue to resonate in contemporary political discourse.

Comedy audiences are also well served this week with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, which lands on JioHotstar on February 6. Kapil Sharma reprises his role as Mohan Sharma, a man whose attempt to reconcile love and faith lands him in a farcical situation involving multiple marriages and mistaken identities. The sequel leans heavily on situational humour and social satire, aiming to replicate the mass appeal of its predecessor.

Netflix further expands its slate with Queen of Chess, which releases on the platform on February 6. The documentary chronicles the extraordinary life of Hungarian chess prodigy Judit Polgár, examining her rise in a male-dominated sport and offering an intimate look at ambition, discipline and gender bias. Also releasing on Netflix on February 6 is Salvador, a hard-hitting Spanish drama that follows an ambulance driver who infiltrates a violent extremist group after discovering his daughter’s radicalisation, pushing him to confront his own moral limits.

In theatres this week

While OTT platforms dominate living-room viewing, cinemas are banking on content-driven releases this week. The most notable among them is Vadh 2, which reunites Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta in a darker, more psychologically intense follow-up to their 2022 sleeper hit. The sequel moves away from the original narrative while retaining its moral complexity, focusing on crime, guilt and justice through a new lens. The film releases theatrically across India on February 6.

Also arriving in theatres on February 6 is Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! Fun on the Run, which brings the popular television sitcom to the big screen, and Paro Paro Pinaki Ki Kahani, a romantic drama rooted in everyday urban realities. Together, the releases reflect a week where nostalgia, star power and socially conscious storytelling coexist across formats.

For viewers, the first weekend of February offers more than just volume. It presents a snapshot of an industry increasingly comfortable experimenting with genres and platforms—whether through political cinema on OTT, prestige documentaries, or mid-budget theatrical films anchored in strong performances.
