Good news for farmers: PM KISAN scheme 12th instalment released before Diwali

As an early Diwali gift to the farmers, the government on Monday released the 12th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Under the latest instalment, the government will transfer ₹16,000 crores to over eight lakh farmers through direct benefit transfer. 

“Another instalment of Rs 16,000 crore has also been released to crores of farmer families as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi says. 

Launched in 2018, the PM Kisan scheme provides income support of ₹6,000 per year in three instalments to all land-holding farmers. This means that every four months, the farmers will receive an amount of ₹2,000. The government says that so far an amount of more than ₹2 lakh crore has been transferred to the farmers.  

“The benefit is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer mode, using modern digital technology. So far, eligible farmer families have received the benefit of more than ₹2 lakh crore under PM-KISAN through 11 instalments. Of this, ₹1.6 lakh Crore has been transferred during the COVID pandemic period. With the 12th instalment to be released by the Prime Minister on 17.10.2022, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries is expected to cross well over ₹2.16 lakh Crore,” says a government statement.

Registering to the PMKISAN portal or eKYC is mandatory to avail of the instalment amount. 

Here is how the farmers can avail the scheme:

• If you want to register as a beneficiary for the scheme, click on the ‘New Farmer Registration option in the farmer’s corner. 

• Enter your Aadhaar card no, contact number, state and the captcha code. You will get OTP in the registered mobile number. Enter the OTP on the website and press submit option. 

• After this go to the e-KYC option in the farmers' corner. Enter your Aadhaar details. 

One Nation One Fertiliser Scheme

Apart from the 12th instalment of PM KISAN Scheme, the government also launched Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojna or One Nation, One Fertilizer scheme under a single brand name ‘Bharat,’ in order to standardize fertilizer brands across the country and to prevent criss-cross movement of fertilizers and high freight subsidy. 

“Now the urea sold in the country will be of the same name, same brand and same quality and this brand are Bharat! Now urea will be available only under the ‘Bharat’ brand name in the entire country,” Modi said. The brand will contain all subsidized soil nutrients such as urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), Muriate of Potash (MoP) and NPK. 

Apart from this the government also launched 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PM-KSK) as a one-stop-shop for farmers to buy products and avail services.
