Portea Medical, the Bengaluru-based home healthcare services company, has been at the forefront of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Over a period of 10 months, Portea—which is led by Meena Ganesh who is a regular on the Fortune India Most Powerful Women in Business list—has served more than 300,000 patients at home with less than 2.5% needing hospitalisation, thereby ensuring that hospital beds across the country were available for critical care patients. Ganesh, who is managing director and CEO of Portea Medical, points out that there are many lessons from the past year that helped her company become “more dynamic and nimble” while offering homecare services that customers were looking for. Portea relaunched its telemedicine service during the lockdown and also offered services such as chemotherapy, dialysis, and post-cancer supportive care at home as customers avoided visiting hospitals and clinics fearing the risk of hospital-acquired infection.
