About

The `50,000-crore-plus Torrent Group has embarked on one of the most ambitious expansion phases in its history, aiming to double profits and scale revenues to `1 lakh crore over the next five years. Driving the growth are three young leaders, shaping the future of the group across pharma, energy and new-age businesses. Torrent Pharmaceuticals recorded revenues of nearly `14,000 crore in FY26, registering a 21% growth YoY. Over the past decade, it has transformed itself into a specialty-focussed pharma firm, with nearly 75% of its revenues now coming from India’s chronic and sub-chronic therapy segments. Much of the credit for this transformation goes to Aman Mehta, executive chairman Samir Mehta’s elder son, who became MD on August 1, 2025. “Accelerating Torrent Pharma’s India business through field-force expansion, product launches, portfolio diversification and the acquisitions of JB Pharma and Curatio Healthcare has strengthened our growth trajectory over the last two years,” says Aman. He has a bigger ambition ahead. “My dream is to lead the evolution of Torrent Pharma from a branded generics company into an innovation-led pharma firm and play whatever role Torrent can, in helping India emerge as a global biotech hub.” Supporting Aman in Torrent Pharma’s transformation is his younger brother, Shaan Mehta, who heads strategic planning at the firm. Since joining the group in 2018, he has worked across corporate strategy, the launch of new business segments and the development of Torrent’s ESG framework. “The past two years have been a defining period for Torrent,” says Shaan. “In pharma, we have strengthened our product portfolio by focussing on developing differentiated first-to-launch products and acquiring JB Pharma. Torrent’s entry into the IPL through the acquisition of Gujarat Titans has also been a major milestone.” Varun Mehta, the younger son of Sudhir Mehta, chairman emeritus, Torrent Group, meanwhile, is building new businesses for the group. He leads the group’s expansion into three new verticals—Torrent Electricals, Torrent Hospitals and Torrent Diagnostics. At the group level, he spearheads strategy and new ventures. “Torrent has adopted a strategy to deepen its presence in healthcare and energy,” says Varun. “We are entering related adjacencies such as hospitals and diagnostics in healthcare, and electricals as a consumer-facing venture in the energy space.”
