“I never wanted to be in fashion,” Anamika Khanna says, almost as if she’s still amused by how it all unfolded. Yet she adds, “[Today] I wake up in the morning, and I’m excited to design.” But there’s a difference now: the design is only one part of a much larger machine. Her contemporary label AK-OK, which entered into a 40:60 JV with Reliance Brands Ltd in 2021, has evolved into a scaled play. But Khanna’s approach to business remains intuitive. “They manage everything else and leave the creative part to me,” she says. She nurtures global ambitions, and a partner like Reliance brings in market access. For now, the focus remains on strengthening AK-OK’s structure before expanding further.
