About

Priya Nair’s new role at HUL was like a homecoming, albeit not an easy one. She chose to break out of the ‘one-size-fits-all’ way of doing business and laid down an ambitious plan of driving volume-led growth, by radically segmenting consumers. “India is emerging with clear consumer cohorts. At the top of the pyramid are power spenders, the 80 million Indians. The democratisers are at the bottom. HUL has an incredible portfolio that spans across price pyramids. There are opportunities to segment and cover each of these cohorts,” she says. Nair isn’t oblivious to competition from new-age brands. She announced that HUL’s core brands would be modernised. “It will be done both through renovation and innovation. We will invest in marketing, which is social-first. We will invest our resources in future-fit channels, including quick commerce,” says Nair, who is on a mission to revive one of India’s oldest companies.
