The flow of marquee deals continues for the country’s ace corporate lawyer Zia J. Mody, co-founder and managing partner, AZB & Partners. “We acted on several marquee deals of the year, including the takeover of JSW Energy by KSK Mahanadi Power Company, and advising on the competition aspects of the $36-billion deal where Mars took over Kellanova. These were extremely nuanced and cut across many practice areas and several regulators,” says Mody. Under Mody’s leadership, the firm also boosted its funds practice. “We brought on board a senior funds partner to expand this practice area, which lends to our expanded offerings. We continue to bolster the general corporate practice.” Providing depth is one of AZB & Partners’ key strategies. “The strategy which could lead to enhanced business is to reach out, not only to existing clients, but to deep dive into their different verticals, and cross-sell the firm,” adds Mody.
