The average time taken by these companies to cross the $1 billion valuation mark after their Series A round fell to 7.1 years, compared with 9.5 years in the year-ago period. The companies raised an average of $541 million before reaching unicorn status.

Funding remained concentrated in a handful of large deals, with five rounds of $100 million or more accounting for $1.1 billion, or 48% of the total capital raised. CRED’s $540 million Series H round in June alone accounted for around 25% of total funding.

The funding raised in the first nine months of 2026 remained about 40% of the peak of $5.5 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2021, the report noted.

Late-stage investments accounted for 67% of total fintech funding during the period.

Early-stage funding, covering Series A and B rounds, fell 33% to $668 million across 52 rounds, compared with $1 billion across 82 rounds in the year-ago period. Weaver’s $103 million Series B round and Aaritya Technologies’ $33 million Series B round were among the notable deals.

Seed funding declined 57% to $73.8 million across 76 rounds, down from $173 million across 148 rounds in the first nine months of 2025.

CRED raised $540 million in a Series H round in June, backed by Meta. KreditBee raised $220 million in a Series E round in April, backed by Motilal Oswal, White Oak and Hornbill Capital. Weaver secured $103 million in a Series B round in March, backed by Premji Invest and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

The other two mega-rounds were raised by Slice, which secured $100 million in a Series D round in September, and Navi, which raised $100 million in a Series C round in August, backed by Prosus.

The number of companies raising their first funding round also declined. Thirty companies secured their first round in the first nine months of 2026, down 49% from 59 in the corresponding period last year. Series A and later rounds totalled 77, a 31% decline from 112.

Augmont led the public listings with an IPO market capitalisation of $757 million in August 2026, followed by Turtlemint at $471 million in June and Kissht at $305 million in May.

On the mergers and acquisitions front, Indiabulls Group’s $110 million acquisition of Fintech Cloud was the largest deal during the period. Oxyzo’s acquisition of GoldenPi for $4.4 million and Choice’s acquisition of Fintoo for $1.1 million were among the other transactions.
