The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online Aadhaar document update service for another year, allowing users to update and verify their identity and address documents without paying any fee through the myAadhaar portal.

According to an official memorandum issued by UIDAI, the free document update facility will now remain available until June 14, 2027. Earlier, the deadline for availing the service free of cost was June 15, 2026.

“Based on the positive response from Aadhaar number holders, it has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, from June 15, 2026 to June 14, 2027,” UIDAI said in the notification. The authority clarified that the free service is available only through the myAadhaar portal.

How can users update key Aadhaar-related details?

Users can update key Aadhaar-related details such as proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) documents online by logging into the portal using their Aadhaar number and OTP authentication. After uploading the required documents and submitting the request, users can track the status using the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN).

Charges for various Aadhaar update services

The authority also outlined the applicable charges for various Aadhaar update services. Biometric updates — including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs — remain free for the first update between the ages of 5 and 7 years and for the first or second update between ages 15 and 17 years. Other biometric updates cost ₹125.

Biometric updates for children aged between 7 and 15 years will remain free until September 30, 2026. Demographic updates such as name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number and email are free if done alongside biometric updates but attract a fee of ₹75 if done separately.

For document updates related to proof of identity and address, online updates through the myAadhaar portal will continue to remain free until June 14, 2027 while updates carried out at Aadhaar centres will continue to cost ₹75.

mAadhaar app to be phased out soon

Alongside the extension announcement, UIDAI also said the mAadhaar app will soon be phased out, and users are encouraged to migrate to the new Aadhaar app.

In a post on X, UIDAI said the upgraded app will offer features such as secure QR-based Aadhaar sharing, enhanced privacy controls and seamless access to Aadhaar-related services to improve the digital identity experience for users.
