Canva is doubling down on artificial intelligence with the global rollout of Canva Code 2.0, making its AI-powered coding tool available to all users as the company looks to democratise software creation and expand beyond its core design business.

The new offering enables users to build websites, landing pages, web apps, games and other interactive experiences using natural-language prompts, eliminating the need for traditional programming skills. The update also introduces HTML import, editable AI-generated code within Canva's visual editor, and collaborative publishing features, positioning Canva to capitalise on the growing popularity of "vibe coding"—a term used to describe generating code through conversational AI prompts.

The launch marks Canva's latest push to integrate AI into its creative ecosystem, where design, writing, coding and image generation are increasingly converging on a single platform.

"Vibe coding has quickly evolved from a tool for developers into a creative medium that anyone can use to build apps, websites, games and interactive experiences," Canva said in a statement. "Today, we're doing it again, but with code."

How is Canva differentiating itself in the AI coding race?

Unlike conventional AI coding assistants that primarily generate functional prototypes, Canva is betting that visual customisation will become a key differentiator. Users can now generate interactive experiences from a prompt, a pre-built template or imported HTML, and then edit colours, fonts, text and media using Canva's familiar drag-and-drop interface without switching to a separate development environment.

The company says the latest version significantly improves performance, reducing code generation time by 75% while cutting the median time from prompt to published experience by 30%. Canva Code also ships with more than 50 interactive templates, supports real-time collaboration, and enables publishing through free Canva-hosted domains or custom domains purchased within the platform.

The move comes as generative AI rapidly reshapes software development, with technology companies racing to simplify coding for non-technical users. Canva's strategy, however, is to integrate coding into the broader creative workflow rather than position it as a standalone developer tool.

According to the company, more than six million websites have already been created using Canva Code since its initial launch a year ago. Early adopters include educators building classroom portals, schools creating interactive forms, and small businesses developing fundraising tools, planning applications and customer-facing digital experiences.

Canva also said its broader AI suite has now recorded over 32 billion uses, underscoring the growing adoption of AI-powered creative tools across its platform. With more than 265 million monthly users, the company is betting that lowering the barriers to coding could unlock a new wave of creators, entrepreneurs and businesses looking to build interactive digital products without specialist technical expertise.

Canva Code 2.0 is now available to users across Free, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education plans.
