Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded American semiconductor company Qualcomm’s support for India’s semiconductor industry and AI initiatives. PM Modi met Qualcomm president and CEO Cristiano R. Amon and company’s India president Savi Soin on Friday, on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress.
“It was a wonderful meeting with Mr. Cristiano R. Amon and discussing India's strides in AI, innovation and skilling. Great to see Qualcomm’s commitment towards India’s semiconductor and AI missions. India offers unmatched talent and scale to build technologies that will shape our collective future,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X on Saturday.
PM Modi noted that India has a unique combination of highly skilled talent and large-scale capacity that can be leveraged to develop advanced technologies
Amon also revealed in a post on X that the company is looking to expand its investments in the domain of smart glasses, automotives and industrial technology.
“Thank you PM @narendramodi for the great conversation on fostering a broader partnership between @Qualcomm and India in support of the IndiaAI and India Semiconductor Missions, as well as the transition to 6G. We are encouraged by the opportunities to develop an Indian ecosystem across AI smartphones, PCs, smart glasses, auto, industrial and more,” Cristiano R. Amon, president, Qualcomm, wrote in a post on X.

Amon and Soin had also met Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, where Amon gifted Vaishnaw a Manchester United jersey as well.

During IMC, the American company had announced a partnership with Indian home appliances brand Havells to unveil latest smart home innovations.
The categories include air conditioners, washing machines, air purifiers, water heaters, smart fans and smart switches under which the two companies will build AI-led innovations, enabling enhanced energy management, cloud integration, and voice-enabled control across its smart home ecosystem, the company stated in a release.
