After Apple’s September 9 launch event, Samsung wasted no time spotlighting its foldables against the new iPhone 17 lineup. What began as a few cheeky social media posts has now turned into a full-blown #iCant marketing campaign for Samsung, aimed squarely at Apple.
How has Samsung been taking digs at Apple since its launch?
It all began with Apple’s mega launch event, where as the tech giant unveiled its products, Samsung’s social media team was quick to seize on the delayed rollouts and call out the company for being late to the game.
In the first post, Samsung wrote, “[Apple emoji] just announced live translation at Zzz-note…All we can say is, welcome to the party #iCant.”
The #iCant soon became its catchphrase for addressing the fact that Apple has not been able to catch up in innovation, and particularly in AI with its peers including Samsung and Google Pixel.
September 2025
2025 is shaping up to be the year of electric car sales. In a first, India’s electric vehicles (EV) industry crossed the sales milestone of 100,000 units in FY25, fuelled by a slew of launches by major players, including Tata Motors, M&M, Ashok Leyland, JSW MG Motor, Hyundai, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. The issue also looks at the challenges ahead for Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in his third term, and India’s possible responses to U.S. president Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods. In a following post, Samsung took a jab at Apple users having to wait for 5 years to get Sleep Score when Galaxy users had gotten it during the pre-pandemic launch itself.
The brand also poked fun at Apple’s camera upgrade with another post. The Apple iPhone 17 comes with a 48MP Fusion Main camera, while Samsung Galaxy’s latest devices offer more than 200MP camera capabilities.
“48MP x 3 still doesn't equal 200MP #iCant,” Samsung wrote.
The final nail in the coffin came when Samsung reposted a 2022 tweet that read, “Let us know when it folds,” adding that it was shocked to see the remark still remains relevant.
But how did Samsung make a complete giveaway campaign out of #iCant?
In a late Wednesday evening post, Samsung announced a contest for users who intend to make a switch from Apple to its Galaxy AI ecosystem.
“If you heard yourself saying #iCant more than once during yesterday's Zzz-note. This is for [you]. Enter [below] for a chance to switch to the Galaxy ecosystem and win #GalaxyZFold7, #GalaxyBuds3Pro and #GalaxyWatch8Classic. #GalaxyAI,” the South Korean tech giant wrote in a post on X.
The contest invites users to share their reason for switching to the Galaxy ecosystem while tagging Samsung’s handle. Eligible devices include any of the Galaxy lineup, such as the Z Fold7, Buds 3 Pro, or Watch 8 Classic.
However, this contest is only applicable to U.S. customers, given Samsung is vying for a greater market share for its foldables particularly in the U.S. market, where Apple continues to maintain its dominance.
