India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) last month said that mobile phone exports in India surpassed ₹90,000 crore in FY23 from ₹45,000 crore in FY22, mainly driven by the PLI scheme.
According to the ministry, the total incentive is ₹120 crore spread over three financial years. It is nearly double the combined turnover of all domestic drone manufacturers in FY2020-21.
Deloitte says the budget needs to lay emphasis on sustainable growth in demand, which will require efforts to create jobs and increase income generation opportunities.
Of these 42 companies, 17 companies have applied for additional incentive of 1% under design-led manufacturing criteria, the ministry says in a statement.
It may be early to judge, but long years of past subsidies have made little difference; manufacturing's GDP share is stuck at 17-18% for 16 years while employment share has fallen to 10.9% in FY21.
The solar PLI scheme is expected to bring direct investment of around ₹94,000 crore.
95 companies have been chosen for the scheme – 75 for the components part, while the ministry had already approved 20 manufacturers for the vehicles part.
The total incentive to be extended under the scheme is ₹120 crore, spread over three financial years, starting from financial year 2021-22.
Sectors under the PLI scheme currently constitute 40% of the total imports and have the potential to generate 30 lakh skilled and unskilled jobs.
