Honda’s first sedan with a diesel engine in India, Amaze, has seen its numbers more than triple the volumes of the former bestseller, City. Between April and September, Amaze sold 37,841 units against City’s 11,898. Officials of the Japanese auto giant say 65% of the Amaze cars are being sold in tier II and tier III cities. The other trend Honda’s execs are picking up on is that more than 80% of Amaze customers are first-time Honda buyers. The company is looking to start third-shift operations at its Greater Noida plant to cut the four-month waiting period by a couple of months.
