Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, commissioned another vehicle assembly line at its Manesar facility today.

This assembly line has been added to the existing Plant-A of the 3 manufacturing plants at Manesar. The new vehicle assembly line can manufacture 100,000 units per annum. With this additional assembly line, the total manufacturing capability at Manesar stands at 900,000 vehicles per annum.

Cumulatively, the Manesar facility has contributed over 95 lakh units to Maruti Suzuki’s 3 crore cumulative production milestone. Several vehicles like Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz and Celerio are manufactured at this facility.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new assembly line, Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited says, “Maruti Suzuki is deeply committed to Government of India’s vision of 'Make in India'. We aim to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years and this capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a step towards this goal. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units per annum."

“This new assembly line adopts technologies that enhance human ergonomics, improve productivity and enhance traceability.” Takeuchi adds.

Maruti Suzuki's Manesar facility was inaugurated in February 2007 with the start of Plant A. As customer demand increased, the company added Plant-B in 2011 and Plant-C in 2013.

Maruti Suzuki attained cumulative production of over 3 crore units. This feat entails production undertaken at the company’s Gurugram, Manesar (in Haryana) and Hansalpur (in Gujarat) manufacturing facilities. Notably, Indian operations are the fastest to achieve this feat among all Suzuki production bases in record 40 years and 4 months, since the start of production in December 1983.

While over 2.68 crore vehicles have been manufactured at the Company’s Haryana-based facilities, over 32 lakh vehicles were produced at Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MSIL.

The iconic M800 which ushered the mobility revolution in the country played a significant role in this milestone with over 29 lakh units. Other top contributors include models such as Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza and Ertiga.

The company has maintained its leadership in the domestic market. The carmaker commenced exports in 1987 and today contributes nearly 40% of the total vehicle exports from India.

India's largest carmaker reported the highest-ever sales in the year ended March 31, 2024, clocking sales of 17,93,644 units. It achieved the 2 million mark including exports and sales to other OEMs. Maruti Suzuki’s wholesales grew 15% in March to 152,718 as against 132,763 units in the same month last year. The carmaker cornered 42% market share in passenger vehicles.
