Tata Motors' subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility on Wednesday launched the Punch.ev at prices starting from ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Punch EV comes with two battery pack options - 25 kilowatt hour (kWh) - offering an MIDC range (ARAI-certified) of 315 kilometres, and a 35 kWh option, which offers an MIDC range of 421 km. The prices for the long-range variant start at ₹12.99 lakh while the top trim costs ₹14.49 lakh.

The Punch.ev Long Range (LR) is available with the option of a 3.3kW and a 7.2 kW AC fast charger that can be installed either at home or at the workplace. The 7.2 kW AC fast charger costs an additional ₹50,000.

The EV can be charged from 10% to 80% in 56 minutes from any 50 kW DC fast charger, the carmaker says.

The Punch EV is the automaker's first model based on its recently introduced, advanced Pure EV architecture – acti.ev.

The EV comes with paddle shifters, which enable the 4-level multi-mode regeneration and over-the-air software upgrade capabilities. The compact electric vehicle comes with 190mm ground clearance (unladen), a flat 2nd-row floor, 366 litres of boot space, 14 litres of added space in the frunk. The Punch.ev comes with six airbags.

It also features bolstered ventilated leatherette seats, an electric sunroof, mood lights and an air purifier with AQI display.

The Punch.ev, which comes in three options - Smart, Adventure and Empowered, will be available at all Tata Motors showrooms authorised for EV sales and Tata.ev stores across the country.

"Witnessing a 100-fold growth in four years, since inception, EVs are now mainstream. As a testament to Tata's commitment to democratising EVs, the Punch.ev is set to redefine standards, creating a paradigm shift beyond the needs of today and tomorrow," says Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

This comes weeks after Tata launched two EV-exclusive showrooms in Gurugram. The automaker plans to open new EV showrooms across Tier-I and Tier-II cities in the next 12-18 months. It currently displays one or two EVs at its ICE showrooms.

Tata Motors will launch two more EVs this year – Curvv and Harrier EV.

"Today marks a historic milestone in India's EV journey as Tata.ev propels the nation into a new era of sustainable mobility with the launch of Punch.ev... It aims to catapult the Indian EV market, and leapfrog India into an era of pure EVs," Chandra says.
