As the popularity of midnight delivery picks up, companies are trying to grab attention. Fly By Knight, which started in Mumbai in June, is setting itself apart by taking the green route—its people make deliveries on bicycles. “While doing test runs before our launch, people called up to ask how they could be a part of it. Centralising operations didn’t make sense if we were to deliver across the city. So this was a perfect and environmentally friendly way to do it,” says founder Neha Jain. The volunteers, or 'crusaders', who are white-collar workers in their day jobs, are not in this for a quick buck (they get Rs 40 per delivery). One who works in advertising, says he goes out for cycling at night to stay fit, and found the delivery idea cool. Reasons range from working out to keeping Mumbai’s fabled nightlife alive, and the company already has 25 ‘crusaders’ on board.
