Despite higher initial costs, Pudumjee has always pushed Thermax to invest in more energy-efficient solutions. It is a stance that has won her plaudits as a "green activist". With the Paris agreement signed this April, the company is well placed to benefit from opportunities in the energy sector. Last year, Thermax commissioned its biggest cogeneration boiler at a sugar plant. The boiler generates steam to produce 83 MW power. It also started participating in solar cell tenders on an EPC basis. Pudumjee also led an investment in First Energy, a Pune-based company that makes biomass-based stoves and pellet fuel.
