Mahindra sells 20,000 BE6 and XEV 9e EVs in five months, with the BE6 Batman Edition selling out in just 135 seconds; four new SUV concepts set to launch from 2027.
Mahindra & Mahindra said on Friday that it has sold 20,000 units of the BE6 and XEV 9e battery electric vehicles in five months. Cumulatively, the vehicles clocked in 9.3 crore kilometres on Indian roads, the automaker added.
Last month, Mahindra revealed that its BE 6 Batman Edition, unveiled on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day this year, i.e., on August 14, had sold all its units in just 135 seconds. The carmaker had unveiled the automobile with 999 units.
“The Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition created history today when bookings opened at 11:00 AM, with all 999 units sold out in just 135 seconds,” the automaker said. It also unveiled four new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) concepts during its Independence Day event in Mumbai. The SUV series is based on the automaker’s all-new modular and multi-energy NU_IQ platform.
The four SUVs represent different families of vehicles within various segments of the SUV market, designated as Vision X, Vision T, Vision S, and Vision SXT. Engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley, the concepts are expected to go into production from 2027.
Mahindra has witnessed a spurt in demand for electric vehicles since launching its Born Electric concept. “We remain confident that with the current economic situation, we will be able to maintain our guidance. We have the benefit of leveraging the existing manufacturing facilities, and that helps us to keep fixed costs at a lower level,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, ED and CEO, auto and farm sectors, M&M.
Mahindra retailed 43,778 vehicles in August, second only to Maruti Suzuki, and retailing 3,236 electric vehicles, according to data accessed from Vaahan.
For the first quarter, Mahindra reported a 5.7% increase in market share for SUVs to 27.3%, buoyed by robust demand for both its ICE and electric vehicles, even as the overall sentiment in the market remains dour. The overall SUV volumes for Mahindra & Mahindra increased 22% year-over-year. On a group level, the revenue grew 22% to ₹45,529 crore, whereas the net profit rose 24% year-over-year to ₹4,083 crore.
