Uber has partnered with JSW Group to co-develop and deploy electric vehicles (EVs) tailored for India’s ride-hailing ecosystem, marking a strategic push to accelerate clean mobility adoption in the country. The collaboration is aimed at scaling EV usage on the Uber platform in alignment with India’s broader net-zero emissions targets.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between JSW Group Director Parth Jindal and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi at the JSW headquarters in Mumbai. The partnership brings together Uber’s large-scale mobility platform and JSW Group’s growing focus on automotive and clean energy-led mobility solutions.

Focus on India-specific EV solutions for mobility services

Under the MoU, Uber and JSW Green Mobility—a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Group—will explore the joint development of electric vehicles designed specifically for ride-hailing use cases in India. The focus will be on aligning product design, pricing, and performance with the requirements of drivers and fleet operators on Uber’s platform.

The collaboration is expected to emphasise localisation, with both companies aiming to build EV solutions suited to India’s urban mobility conditions and cost structures. The vehicles will be developed keeping in mind the operational needs of high-usage mobility services, where durability, affordability and efficiency are key.

Platform-scale push to accelerate EV adoption

Uber said the partnership forms part of its broader strategy to expand access to electric mobility across India through collaborations with automakers, fleet operators and ecosystem players. The company is working to increase the availability of EVs across multiple vehicle categories on its platform.

“India’s transition to electric mobility requires strong ecosystem partnerships across technology platforms, automakers, fleet operators, and infrastructure players,” said Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia.

He added that the collaboration with JSW Group is aimed at accelerating EV adoption on the Uber platform by exploring solutions built for Indian riders and drivers, while supporting the government’s green mobility vision.

JSW bets on scalable clean mobility ecosystem

JSW Group said the partnership is aligned with its broader clean mobility ambitions and India’s long-term decarbonisation goals. The company expects the collaboration to help build scalable EV solutions that can be integrated into the country’s rapidly evolving mobility ecosystem.
