New funding to boost safety, healthcare and financial security for associates while upgrading fulfilment, quick commerce and last-mile delivery infrastructure
Amazon India announced plans to invest over ₹2,800 crore (around $300 million) to strengthen associate safety, health, and financial wellbeing, while expanding its operations network. This is part of its broader commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030, focused on business expansion, AI-led digitisation, export growth, and job creation.
The investment builds on its ₹2,000 crore (around $233 million) spend in 2025, which led to the launch of 17 new fulfillment centres, six sortation centres, and 75 last-mile delivery stations. In 2025, Amazon also launched its quick commerce offering, Amazon Now, scaling it to over 300 micro-fulfilment centres across key cities.
“Since launching Amazon.in in 2013, we have built one of India’s safest, fastest, and most reliable operations networks, serving customers across every serviceable pin code in the country. At the heart of this network are our people, and we remain committed to raising the bar on associate safety, health, and financial wellbeing. This year, we are investing over ₹2800 crore (around $300 million) to further strengthen these efforts, while continuing to scale our operations network and advance the technology that enables faster, safer, and more reliable deliveries for customers,” said Abhinav Singh, VP - Operations, Amazon India and Australia.
Amazon will scale Project Ashray to expand rest facilities for delivery associates, and continue to grow Sushruta, its health and wellness programme for long-haul truck drivers and their families. It will also introduce new wellness initiatives and enable access to preventive healthcare through nationwide medical camps.
The company plans to enhance medical and accident insurance, while expanding financial inclusion and social security access through the Samriddhi programme. This includes enrolment in schemes such as Ayushman Bharat Health Account and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana for associates and community members. Amazon will also continue supporting education for associates’ children through the Pratidhi scholarship and mentorship programme.
Investing in infrastructure and technology
Amazon will expand and upgrade its operations network, including fulfillment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations, to increase capacity and improve delivery speeds, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities. It also plans to more than double Amazon Now’s footprint within existing cities and expand to additional locations.
Facilities will include climate control, improved ventilation, cooling solutions, access to drinking water, and enhanced safety and accessibility features.
The company will also invest in AI and machine learning to improve safety and efficiency. This includes tools to monitor unsafe driving behaviour, prompts for rest breaks, and AI models to assess route complexity and distribute workloads more equitably. Enhancements to the driver app will focus on navigation for unstructured addresses, earnings transparency, and simplified workflows.
