According to the official announcement, the facility will be inaugurated at SRM University in Amaravati, alongside a virtual launch of a quantum facility centre at Medha Towers in Gannavaram.

Officials said the project forms part of the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative under India’s National Quantum Mission, and will establish a “sovereign quantum infrastructure” for the country. “With setting up of Amaravati Quantum Reference facility, India has now open sovereign quantum infrastructure,” the release noted.

The launch will feature a live demonstration of quantum system initiation, including the cooling of the processor on the Amaravati 1Q system. A parallel Amaravati 1S system will be showcased as an open-access platform for attendees.

Building a deep-tech ecosystem

The Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility is expected to anchor a national quantum hardware network, enabling India to “design, test, certify and manufacture quantum systems for the world.” Technologies developed under the programme, including cryogenics and quantum-grade fabrication, are likely to have applications in defence, healthcare and semiconductors.

The broader ecosystem will include a 133-qubit quantum computer from IBM and over 80 industry and academic partnerships, positioning Amaravati among emerging global quantum hubs.

P.S. Pradyumna, Secretary to the Chief Minister, said “it’s a dream come true for people of Andhra Pradesh,” adding that “for the first time in the country indigenous Quantum Computing testing facility is going to be launched.”

Focus on skill development

He also highlighted the focus on skill development, noting that “people enjoyed the fruits of computer technology for more than three decades and now it is time to switch over to AI and Quantum technology.”

The initiative traces back to the Amaravati Declaration in 2025, where Naidu outlined his vision to build a full-stack quantum ecosystem. With the upcoming launch, Andhra Pradesh is taking an early lead in India’s push into frontier technologies, even as global competition in quantum computing intensifies.
