Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA has opened its first store in Delhi at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden on Wednesday. This marks the company's entry into the offline market in North India, after launching e-commerce services in the region earlier this year.

The 15,000 sq. ft. outlet is the company’s second city store in the country, with the first one opened in South Mumbai. The company's large-format store outlets are already present in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Navi Mumbai. The new store is part of IKEA India’s broader strategy to operate across multiple formats, including online sales, large stores, compact city locations, and specialised planning points.

The Pacific Mall store will offer more than 2,000 home furnishing products for display, with around 800 available for immediate purchase. Larger products can be ordered online for home delivery. The outlet includes room settings designed for urban homes in Delhi and provides services such as space planning, furniture advice, and access to digital tools for customisation.

In addition to home products, the store houses a Swedish Café serving popular snacks from IKEA’s global menu. The compact format is designed to operate in high-footfall urban locations, offering a scaled-down version of the retailer’s full in-store experience.

IKEA entered the Indian market in 2018 with its first large-format store in Hyderabad and has since expanded its physical presence while building an e-commerce network. Its operations in India follow an omnichannel model, aimed at providing access to products and services both online and in physical locations.

In the National Capital Region, the retailer currently operates online and through the new West Delhi store. Two full-format IKEA experience centres are under development in Gurgaon and Noida, which will add to the company’s footprint in North India. The Gurgaon and Noida projects are expected to replicate the scale of its Bengaluru and Hyderabad outlets, offering the full product range along with planning and delivery services.

Speaking to Fortune India, Susanne Pulverer, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA India, revealed that the Gurgaon store is expected to be operational in a year and a half with the Noida store only coming up once that is completed.

The store in Pacific Mall is positioned to serve customers in West Delhi and surrounding areas, with the company’s “One Click, 30 Minutes Away” approach intended to shorten delivery times for online orders. By combining compact urban outlets, large experience centres, and digital retail, IKEA is building a network to cater to varying shopping preferences and space requirements in Indian cities.

Responding to Fortune India's question on whether the company will plan to venture in a quick commerce model, Patrik Antoni, company’s incoming CEO, and Pulver revealed that the company is currently doing tests but is not sure if the customers do need home furnishing within 30 minutes. Currently, IKEA delivers day plus one, maximum day plus three, even in categories like kitchen. In a sense, providing quick commerce for home furnishing, especially since the industry standard is 15 days to three months for delivery.
