Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma said the country’s fuel supply chain remained stable and there were no reports of shortages at retail outlets. “Our refineries are operating at optimal levels. No dry-out has been reported at any retail outlet. LPG distributorships are also functioning smoothly,” Sharma said.

She added that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel were available across the country and LPG supplies for domestic cooking needs remained uninterrupted.

According to the ministry, 1.14 crore LPG cylinders were delivered over the last three days against bookings of 1.26 crore cylinders. In the same period, over 17,000 tonnes of commercial LPG and more than 762 tonnes of auto LPG were sold.

The government also said over 1.4 lakh 5-kg LPG cylinders were sold during the period while oil marketing companies organised 93 special camps that facilitated the sale of more than 2,100 cylinders.

The briefing came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption, postpone foreign travel and destination weddings abroad, and limit gold purchases amid economic pressures arising from the West Asia conflict.

The Prime Minister had said global supply chains were already strained following the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, and the ongoing conflict in West Asia had further intensified challenges for economies worldwide.
