Initially, the airline will offer 6 weekly direct flights to Athens from Delhi, by the beginning of next year, following the approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
In a first for the country, IndiGo will operate direct flights from India to Greece’s capital city Athens from January 2026, the airline announced on Monday.
The announcement of India’s New Aviation Corridor with the European nation will see the first Airbus aircraft flying to and from Athens. This makes IndiGo the only Indian airline connecting the two countries via direct flights.
“This new aviation corridor is a strategic step in IndiGo’s international expansion and aligns perfectly with India’s growing economy and tourism industry. With flight schedules ensuring convenience for travellers, we are confident that this route will further encourage demand for business and leisure travel alike. With this, we also look to connect to more points in Greece, strengthening the connectivity between the two countries,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo, in a statement.
The company revealed that it is all set to receive the country’s first Airbus A321XLR by the end of this year. This Airbus vehicle is a narrow-body aircraft has a range of up to 8,700 km, while maintaining the cost-efficiency of a single-aisle fleet, enabling non-stop flights from India to Southern Europe with greater efficiency.
Initially, the airline will offer 6 weekly direct flights to Athens from Delhi, by the beginning of next year, following the approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Following the commencement of flights on this route, the airline aims to expand the direct flight facility to both Delhi and Mumbai, with three flights per week operating from both of the cities to Athens. This way, Indian travellers will be able to visit popular Greek destinations such as Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete. The flight will see an Economy Class and IndiGoStretch for a more premium experience with enhanced legroom, in-flight entertainment, and elevated cabin experience.
This comes in the wake of increased tourism to Greece from India seeing a significant uptick in Indian travellers visiting the Greek islands and neighbouring cities.
A significant number of Indians are also seen increasingly choosing Greece as a popular destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) and wedding tourism.
The airline also stated that it will partner with local players in the European nation to expand in the continent.
This announcement comes just days after IndiGo announced its annual Grand Runaway Fest start from today and continue through September 21.
The domestic flights are set to start from ₹1,299, and international flights are starting from ₹4,599. The company also is extending discounts up to 50% on select add-on services that it offers including food and beverages, and seat preference options.
Users can book air tickets between January 7, 2026, to March 31, 2026. However, the direct flight options to Athens from Delhi were not available yet on the website.
