As per the regulatory body's data, while Maharashtra emerged as a leader in passenger and commercial vehicle sales, Uttar Pradesh led in two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales.

For the second quarter of the current fiscal year, 10.39 lakh units of passenger vehicles (PV) were sold in the country. Of which 1.32 lakhs were sold in Maharashtra alone, contributing 12.7% to total PV sales, as per data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Western Zone led the passenger vehicle sales with 3.44 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh sold 1,00,481 units, adding 9.7%, followed by Gujarat, which sold 87,901 units or 8.5%. Karnataka’s share was 7.4%, or 76,422 units, and Kerala took the fifth spot, with 69,609 units or 6.7%.
Maharashtra also led in commercial vehicle (CV) sales, recording 37,000 units being sold, making up 15.5% share from the total of 2.40 lakh CVs sold in the country in the said quarter. Western Zone led the commercial vehicle sales with 92,000 units. Taking the second spot was Gujarat, which sold 22,491 units, leading to 9.4% share, followed by Uttar Pradesh, with 19,009 units or 7.9%, Tamil Nadu, with 18,508% or 7.7% and Karnataka, with 16,743 units or 7%.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh led in two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales. In the two-wheeler category, the state had a staggering 6.93 lakh units or 12.5% of the total market share of 55.62 lakh in Q2FY2026. Western Zone led the two-wheeler sales with 19.33 lakh units. As per SIAM data, Maharashtra sold 6.29 lakh units, contributing 11.3%, and Gujarat sold 4.46 lakh units, or 8%. Tamil Nadu was fourth, with 3.98 lakh units or 7.2% market share, followed by Rajasthan with 3.61 lakh units sold, adding 6.5% to the total sales.
In terms of three-wheeler sales for Q2 of the current fiscal year, a total of 2.29 lakh units were sold in the country. The southern zone led, with 77,000 units. Uttar Pradesh sold 28,000 units, making 12.3% of the market share. Telangana, with 26,626 units or 11.6% stood second, followed by Gujarat, with 22,572 units or 9.8%. Maharashtra sold 21,100 units, holding 9.2% share of the total sales, with Karnataka completing the top-five list, recording 18,048 units or 7.9%.
