Personalised answers using medical records

“We are launching with connectors for Apple Health, electronic health records from over 1.7 million care providers, and platforms including Fitbit, Ultrahuman, Withings, Clue, and many more. These are powered by partners like b.well and Terra API alongside direct integrations. ŌURA and Function are expected soon,” the statement read.

The AI company said that the feature draws from premium medical literature, including clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed journals. Each response includes citations linked directly to the source material so you can read what the answer is based on.

“Right now, most health answers online are grounded in SEO-optimized content written to rank. Perplexity Health answers include real guardrails, including clear guidance on when to seek care,” the blog noted.

The company positions this as a shift towards more relevant answers, noting that healthcare queries often depend on personal context rather than broad guidance.

Advisory board to guide development

To support the rollout, Perplexity has created a Health Advisory Board made up of medical experts. The board will help guide the product on issues such as clinical accuracy, safety and responsible data use.

In its announcement, the company said the goal is to ensure the product is built with “high standards for medical accuracy and patient safety.” It also framed the board as part of a broader effort to bring “trusted expertise into how health answers are generated.”

Privacy and user control

Users must explicitly grant permission to connect their health data. The system follows a user-controlled model, allowing individuals to decide what is shared and to revoke access when needed.

Perplexity describes the setup as “consumer-controlled health data access,” highlighting that users remain in charge of their information.
