Robust demand from diverse sectors to boost commercial refrigeration growth: Blue Star MD

Blue Star plans to invest ₹400 crore in the financial year 2025-26 to expand its manufacturing capacity across room air conditioners, commercial refrigeration and commercial air conditioning segments. The leading air conditioning company, which currently commands 30% market share in commercial refrigeration space, plans to reach around 33-35% over the next three years by launching new product categories.

“We expect the company’s market share in our addressable commercial refrigeration market to grow to 33-35%. We will be growing higher than the industry. The company will also be launching new product categories within this space,” B Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Blue Star, told reporters at a press conference held in Delhi today.

He further said that the commercial refrigeration industry is witnessing strong growth, driven by demand from ice cream OEMs, QSR chains, HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering) sector, quick commerce, food retail, and healthcare. “The growing trend of outside-the-home consumption, especially in perishable foods, is a major growth driver. We are committed to enhancing our market leadership by offering an innovative range of energy-efficient and eco-friendly products.”

“We have made significant investments in digitalisation and IoT technologies to improve our product offerings and streamline operations. With a promising summer season ahead and a diverse product range, we are confident in our growth prospects for this fiscal year and beyond,” he said.

Blue Star MD also announced the launch of an extensive range of commercial refrigeration products for the summer of 2025, specifically designed to meet diverse refrigeration needs. With a strong focus on growth, the company plans to expand its commercial refrigeration business and capitalise on the rising opportunities in the country, he said.

Last month, the company launched its new comprehensive range of 150 models of Room ACs, including a ‘flagship premium’ range, for the upcoming summer season. The lineup features inverter, fixed speed, and window ACs, addressing the needs of every consumer segment across all price points. These models are available in various cooling capacities from 0.8 ton of refrigeration (TR) to 4 TR, with starting price of ₹28,990.

Blue Star's production capacity is currently around 1.4 million room ACs, with plans for gradual expansion to 1.8 million units in the near future. According to estimates, India's AC industry is projected to double by FY30. This growth will be fueled by the increasing demand in Tier 3, 4, and 5 markets, as well as by replacement buyers and those purchasing ACs for additional rooms in their homes.
