A senior company official outlines VinFast’s India strategy, ruled-out price thresholds, and upcoming product roadmap

Electric vehicle maker VinFast India is preparing to deepen its presence in the country by targeting the fast-expanding ₹10–14 lakh Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment, even as it maintains a premium-first strategy. The Vietnamese automaker, which currently retails the VF6 and VF7 electric Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in India, is evaluating more affordable models to broaden its “addressable market” without chasing ultra-low-cost offerings.
“We are adopting a top-down approach with our product offering for the Indian market. We have launched two models—VF6 and VF7—in the premium segment. We are now considering a notch below it that falls in the ₹10–14 lakh price segment,” VinFast India CEO Tapan Ghosh told Fortune India in an exclusive interaction. He, however, ruled out any plans for a sub-₹10 lakh EV in the medium term.
VinFast’s existing lineup is positioned in the mid segment of India’s EV market. The VF6 is priced in the ₹16.5–18.5 lakh range (ex-showroom), while the larger and more powerful VF7 is priced at around ₹21–26.8 lakh, following the withdrawal of introductory pricing. According to Ghosh, the next phase of launches will be calibrated to Indian usage conditions rather than headline specifications.
When asked about the possibility of bringing smaller global models such as the VF4 or VF5 to India, Ghosh said, “All options are on the table and these models can also be added to the lineup. Having said that, the models will be customised to meet the local conditions here.”
Beyond compact EVs, VinFast is also preparing to enter new body styles. The company plans to introduce three new models in India this year, starting with the Limo Green, a three-row electric MPV.
“We will begin with launching a seven-seater MPV. This is a premium yet practical electric MPV developed with both family and commercial use in mind,” Ghosh said. The Limo Green features a 60.1 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 450 km on a single charge.
“Beyond that, additional models will follow, each addressing different segments and needs. Our focus remains on safety, reliability, and long-term value, the fundamentals that sustain brands over time, rather than chasing trends,” he added.
Supporting this product expansion is an aggressive retail and ecosystem push. VinFast, which began local production in Tamil Nadu last year, plans to double its sales footprint from 35 showrooms by end-2025 to 75 outlets in 2026, expanding deeper into Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities. The company will also leverage Vingroup’s green mobility ecosystem to roll out charging infrastructure and all-electric ride-hailing solutions.
“When people see EVs being used confidently at scale, hesitation reduces. And those everyday users often become the strongest ambassadors,” Ghosh said, underlining VinFast’s broader ambition to normalise EV adoption in India.
