Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday will launch, dedicate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth about ₹22,655 crore across Gujarat, the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep, marking one of the largest infrastructure investment packages announced this year for western India and island territories.

The projects, spread across roads, power, healthcare, aviation, industrial infrastructure, ports and tourism, are expected to improve logistics efficiency, enhance regional connectivity and support economic activity in manufacturing hubs, tribal regions and coastal areas.

Expressway, highways and power projects dominate Gujarat package

Of the total investment, projects worth over ₹18,800 crore are concentrated in Gujarat, with a strong focus on transport and industrial infrastructure. A key highlight is the dedication of Packages VI and VII of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, a critical corridor expected to reduce travel time and improve freight movement between Gujarat and Maharashtra, two of India's largest industrial states.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of critical stretches of National Highway-56, aimed at improving connectivity in tribal districts and strengthening access to the Statue of Unity tourism circuit.

Industrial and utility infrastructure forms another major component of the Gujarat package. These include expansion of the interstate transmission network, power distribution upgrades in Valsad under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, effluent treatment facilities at Dahej PCPIR and Sarigam GIDC, and utility infrastructure for the Jambusar Bulk Drug Park.

Healthcare infrastructure will receive a boost with the inauguration of a 200-bed ESIC Hospital in Surat, equipped with emergency and trauma care facilities and specialist services.

Daman bets on aviation, tourism and urban infrastructure

In Daman, projects worth about ₹2,970 crore will be launched or announced across healthcare, aviation, tourism and urban development.

Among the projects to be inaugurated are the new terminal building of NAMO Airport and NAMO Hospital, together accounting for a significant portion of the ₹1,340-crore package being dedicated to the public. The airport expansion is expected to improve regional air connectivity and support tourism and business travel, while the hospital has been designed to handle nearly 1,500 outpatient visits daily.

The foundation stone will also be laid for projects worth around ₹1,630 crore, including an iconic bridge, a convention centre and a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus, initiatives expected to attract investment and generate employment.

Lakshadweep port projects target maritime economy

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for four projects worth ₹885 crore in Lakshadweep, focused on developing port facilities at Kalpeni and Kadmat islands.

The proposed multipurpose jetties will enable year-round berthing of large passenger and cruise vessels and improve cargo handling capabilities. The projects are expected to strengthen maritime connectivity, support fishing-related activities and provide a boost to tourism and local livelihoods in the island territory.
