The statement came amid reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan on Saturday night, which were confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on a social media platform, has lauded the ceasefire “understanding” between India and Pakistan, hinting that he would increase trade with both nations, without disclosing further details. He also said that he will work with both countries to find a solution to Kashmir.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much. Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” Trump said in a post on Truth, a social media platform.
“While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations. Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a “thousand years,” a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!,” the U.S. President further said.
The statement came amid reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which was confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri last night. It may be noted that President Trump on Saturday claimed that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire mediated by the U.S.
The news of the ceasefire was first confirmed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who in a post on Truth, said, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Soon after, authorities from both nations announced the ceasefire. Within hours, Pakistan launched a series of missile and drone attacks across the Line of Control (LoC) and various locations in Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat.
Foreign Secretary Misri, in a late-night press briefing, said that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire and urged the country to deal with the situation with “seriousness”. Misri also said that the Indian armed forces have been instructed to deal with the violations strongly.
“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier between the directors general of military operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations. We have taken very serious notice of these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri said.
Earlier on May 10, Misri had said that Pakistan called India that afternoon and both sides directly decided to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, too, had said that India and Pakistan have worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. “India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,” Jaishankar posted on the social media platform X.
