The same period in the previous year saw total sales of 501,207 units comprising 429,422 units in domestic and 71,785 units in export markets.
The automaker's board, in its meeting held today, approved the re-appointment of Hisashi Takeuchi as managing director and chief executive officer for a further period of three years with effect from April 1, 2025 till March 31, 2028.
Takeuchi joined SMC (Suzuki Motor Corporation) in 1986 and was assigned to the overseas marketing department, Europe Group, SMC. In March 2009, he became managing director of Magyar Suzuki Corporation, Hungary and from June 2019, worked at various levels such as managing director, executive general manager, Asia Automobile Marketing/ India Automobile Department at SMC, Japan. Takeuchi joined Maruti Suzuki India Ltd in April 2021 as joint managing director (Commercial) and is currently serving as managing director and CEO of the company since April 2022.
On January 17, Maruti Suzuki unveiled its eVITARA, the company's first battery electric vehicle, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The company, however, has not yet announced the launch date or expected pricing of its first BEV.
The company plans to install EV charging points across 100 cities in its first phase to enable faster adoption of BEVs. “The idea is that within the first 100 cities, every 5 to 10 kilometers, a customer finds a charging point by Maruti Suzuki... We are preparing over 1,500 EV-enabled service workshops covering over 1,000 cities. These workshops will have specially trained manpower and special equipment to provide all EV-related support, including charging,” said Takeuchi during the car launch.
At the launch, Takeuchi told reporters that a lot of countries are waiting for the new EV. "EV penetration in European countries is much higher than in India. So they need this car more quickly," he said.
Takeuchi believes battery-as-a-service is one of the options to eliminate the customers’ pain points. "By the time we introduce pricing, at that time we will explain our solution for this also. The concern of residual value can be eliminated with BaaS," he said. "We are thinking about how to eliminate consumer pain points and anxiety. Lowering the high upfront costs of EVs is one of the solutions," he said.
"We are offering a product with 500 km range. We are going to put our fast charging systems at Maruti showrooms. And Maruti customers will be able to access charging points on top of existing third-party charging infrastructure," he added.
